The Struggling Manager
Helping you get more out of work.

Annual Review Summary
by Rob Redmond - May 15, 2008

In the previous article about how to get a raise, I recommended that you take your accomplishments to your boss and present them quickly on your laptop or printed out.

Here is a simple overview of a fictional sales manager’s annual report. You might think this is too simple, too black and white. You can make it look however you like, but rest assured, most bosses never receive anything monthly, quarterly, or annually from their employees holding themselves accountable for their objectives and accomplishing them.

Attached is a powerpoint presentation with four slides - one title slide and three with content.

Fill out your own - keep it simple. Use 3 slides and expect 20 minutes of discussion. Print it out and give a copy to your boss. Sit down and review it with him quickly, taking little of his time. You could do this monthly, quarterly, and annually. It takes little time, and it helps your boss see your objectives and accomplishments.

The real trick is having solid objectives and knowing how to identify an accomplishment. More on that topic later.
